Abstract
This study investigates how burdens of caring family at mid-life influence the old age preparations through the medium of self-efficacy. In other words, this study is aimed at verifying direct and indirect paths seen in burdens of caring family and old age preparations. This research is based on Seoul Panel Data provided by Seoul Welfare Foundation in 2010, which conducted a survey of 805 middle-aged, from 35 to 60 years, people. The research method is to examine general and prime variable features through frequency, descriptive. Besides, it verifies the research model through SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) and analyzes the significant mediating effects through Sobel Test. The result of the research says that the study analyzing the load of bringing a family up and old age preparations shows that burdens of caring aged parents and preschool children have meaningful effects on physical, financial, social and spare preparations for old age. However, it is revealed that there is a gap among objects to care since a burden of bringing preschool children up has meaningful effects only on social old age preparation. In addition, it came out into the open that self-efficacy is mediated by almost every path. This study indicates theoretical and practical interventions to promote preparation for old age.
